- Kendrick Perkins defended his actions during an altercation at his son's AAU game, stating he was protecting his players.
- The incident escalated after an opposing player body-slammed one of Perkins' teammates, prompting a confrontation with the other team's coach.
- Perkins later clarified that he and the opposing coach resolved the situation amicably after the incident.
Despite all the madness going on in the NBA and its Conference Finals, Kendrick Perkins became a talked-about personality in the early hours of the day.
Usually, it is his analysis on First Take or any other ESPN platform that draws the most attention. The former champion is famed for using street slang to bring humor into his opinions, but is also known for using jokes to criticize players, teams, or coaches.
At the same time, some of his opinions have become controversial enough that the Texas native often becomes the subject of incessant trolling or hate on social media.
But in this instance, it was neither his jokes nor his bizarre opinions. This time, the big man became a subject for anyone associated with basketball after the entertainment page, TMZ, uploaded a video of him.
The 22-second clip shows people at an AAU game having to hold back the 41-year-old. The latter was mouthing and pointing his finger at someone, as another person pushed Perkins back to try to de-escalate the situation.
Damn right, and it probably won’t be the last time! I’m going to protect every single kid in my organization like they’re my own.

This was the big man defending his actions at that game. He believes he was right to protect the kids who make up his AAU team. Even though his son was not the one involved in this incident, Kendrick Perkins felt it was necessary to stand up for his son’s teammate.
Kendrick Perkins explains what led to the altercation
Once TMZ’s video went viral, Pat McAfee asked Kendrick Perkins to come on his show and explain what led to this altercation that necessitated someone to hold him back.
We’re in a tournament, it’s a heated game. … We end up winning the game… The other team, they had this guy that’s like 7-foot, 400 pounds. After the game, he comes, and he body slams one of my kids that plays for my team… I tell the coach… He got smart with me again, that’s when I got pissed off.
Kendrick Perkins said
The former Boston Celtics star added that it was when the coach of this other team started to talk back to him that things got out of control. Had that coach reprimanded his player for body-slamming Perkins’ player, this would not have happened.
"Things got heated this weekend..

That's my organization and we were in a tournament..
After the game one of my players got body slammed..

Perkins then clarified that he had to stand up for his player, as that kid’s parents were not there at the tournament. Therefore, he felt it was his responsibility to stand up for that child.
Kendrick Perkins finished his analogy by making it clear that a while after this incident, he and the other team’s coach dapped up and talked things over.
Kendrick Perkins believes Alex Caruso is Western Conference Finals MVP
After clarifying the situation, Pat McAfee then asked Kendrick Perkins for his opinion on what he has seen in the Western Conference Finals so far.

If we’re talking about who has been the best player, consistently, for the Oklahoma City Thunder through this WCF, it’s been Alex Caruso. If I had to give an MVP to a guy right now, my MVP vote, if I had one, would go to Alex Caruso.
Kendricks Perkins replied
The former 27th overall pick pointed out that role players perform well in home games in the playoffs. But Alex Caruso has done it on the road as well, and he deserves to get the WCF Finals MVP.
"My [WCF] MVP vote, if I had one, would go to Alex Caruso."

Perkins pointed to the 2020 champion’s offensive production and his defensive contributions that have helped the Thunder take a 3-2 lead. If they win it, the former Cleveland Cavaliers’ star believes it will have a lot to do with Caruso’s impact.
