- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 122-113 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
- He scored a game-high 30 points, contributing significantly after a subpar performance in Game 1.
- SGA explained his viral "calm down" gesture was directed at teammate Jared McCain, who was distracting him during a crucial moment.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has not been at his scoring best since the last round of the playoffs. But he showed everyone why he is the reigning MVP in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.
After a quiet performance by his standards in Game 1, the Canadian international bounced back in Game 2 and led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 122-113 victory over the Spurs at the Paycom Center. It was a much-needed win for the defending champions as they leveled the series at 1-1.
With one minute to go in regulation, SGA drilled a midrange jumper to give the Thunder a seven-point lead. The shot put the game out of Spurs’ reach. After making the shot, SGA turned around and yelled at someone. He coldly said:
Calm the f*** down!
Clutch Shai told 'em to chill 😭😭🔥

It was a much-needed and huge performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The 27-year-old was named as the MVP on Sunday and was given the award before the start of Game 1. He received the award in front of another candidate, Victor Wembanyama, who used that to motivate himself and put in a monster performance in Game 1.
After a strong start to the playoffs in the first round, SGA has not been anywhere near his MVP form since the second round against the Los Angeles Lakers. He has struggled to find his rhythm and has shot poorly from the field.
However, his performance in Game 2 will be a huge sigh of relief for the Thunder. With Wembanyama showing no signs of slowing down and the Spurs winning Game 1 on the road, the Thunder will need more of such performances from their star player as they look to win on the road in Games 3 and 4.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander explained why he yelled at Jared McCain
After the Thunder took an 11-point lead into halftime, the Spurs threatened to make a comeback in the second half. The tensions were high in the dying stages of the fourth quarter before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took matters into his own hands. After his clutch midrange jumper, he was seen yelling at someone.
After the game, SGA revealed that he was yelling at his teammate, Jared McCain.
No, Jared [McCain] was yelling at me while I was shooting, and I was just like, ‘Bro, I’m shooting. Like, don’t distract me.’ So yeah, that’s all. I was literally just telling Jared to calm down, but that’s what great shooters do. Let you know when they’re open. So, yeah, we hashed it out. We’re good.

SGA and the Thunder will be determined to win at least one of the next two games in San Antonio as they look to regain home-court advantage in the Western Conference Finals. SGA’s calm presence will be the Thunder’s biggest advantage.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander bounces back from a subpar series opener
Things got a lot harder for the Thunder after Jalen Williams exited early in Game 2 with left hamstring tightness. It meant that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be without his second-best scorer on the team.
SGA bounced back strongly on Wednesday as he recorded a game-high 30 points to go along with four rebounds, nine assists, and two blocks. It was an all-round performance from the Thunder guard, who came up big in the clutch.

The two-time MVP was efficient from the field as well. He shot at 50% from the field and made all six of his free throws. He committed just one turnover against the best defensive team so far in the playoffs this year.
There was a lot of help from the bench as well. The Thunder bench outscored the Spurs bench by 57-25. Game 2 showed everyone that while the Spurs have an anomaly in Victor Wembanyama, the Thunder have arguably the league’s best scorer in SGA.
