“The disrespect is getting comical” – Kenny Smith leaves fans furious over snubbing Luka Doncic from 1st team All-NBA

Luka Doncic and Kenny Smith

Luka Doncic and the Mavericks have worked their way up to the 5th seed in the West. The Mavs are 16-2 since the first week of March and have finally secured a playoff berth. Doncic has been the captain of the ship, leading the team to an impressive record. His case for the MVP seems to have taken a steady spike, as he is now only third in the MVP ladder.

Regardless of his chances of winning the MVP award, Doncic does seem to have earned his name on the All-NBA First Team this year. However, Kenny ‘the Jet’ Smith doesn’t believe so. Recently, Smith named his top two guards to make the All-NBA First team this year. Surprisingly, the two-time champion did not acknowledge Luka Doncic in his list.

If I had to go two, Anthony Edwards and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander... Yeah that would be second team(when asked about Doncic's chances in his list).

Anthony Edwards and Shai-Gilgeous Alexander have been phenomenal this season. SGA currently stands fourth in the MVP ladder, whereas Edwards has proven his potential in his fourth season. However, when Kenny did not wish to acknowledge Doncic’s performance this season, fans on Twitter went on a tirade.

Luka Doncic has been neglected by many critics

Kenny Smith’s picks for the All-NBA First Team did receive a lot of hate, though he isn’t the only critic to have the same take on Doncic. Stephen A. Smith held Doncic accountable for Jalen Brunson leaving the Mavs, which resulted in their absence in the last postseason.

Following all the hate towards the Slovenian, Twitteratis did not take Smith’s words so lightly. Here are some of the reactions:

Doncic’s numbers speak for themselves, as no player in the league has been as impactful to their team. To put it into perspective, the Slovenian is putting up 34 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game. Averaging almost a triple-double, Doncic hasn’t received the MVP-like respect by many.

His position in the NBA ladder was at fourth when the Mavs were 8th in the West. Following their incredible run that is still lasting, the Mavs have improved their record drastically which also paved the way for Doncic’s standing in the MVP ladder. Along with the veteran guard, Kyrie Irving, Doncic and the Mavs are on their pace to become some serious threat in the postseason. With his performance in place and his impact on his team so far, Doncic is well deserving of having his name in the All-NBA First Team.
