Ketel Marte found himself in controversy once again after his sudden absence from the Arizona Diamondbacks. As per MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, this did not sit well with some of his teammates.
The saga regarding him started last week. Following their series against the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta, the D-backs traveled to Boston to take on the Boston Red Sox.
Marte, who traveled with the team, did not show up for the game on Monday at Fenway Park. The team waited a long time for his arrival, but he was nowhere to be found. This led to the team placing him on the restricted list.

He was later seen at the team’s hotel in Boston. On Tuesday, his agent claimed that he had suffered some knee inflammation and would undergo an MRI scan.
On Thursday, Marte was placed on the injured list. He also met with General Manager Mike Hazen and team manager Torey Lovullo.
Marte then faced severe backlash on Friday. While the team was playing against the Cincinnati Reds, the second baseman was seen in a casino.

While Torey Lovullo has defended Marte and urged the fans to show him support, there are some of his teammates who have been left frustrated with him. During his appearance on the Foul Territory podcast, Ken Rosenthal claimed that his (Marte’s) appearance in a casino rubbed salt in the wound of some players.
Some of the players I spoke with expressed frustration with the fact that he did essentially leave by not coming out of his hotel room that night. … And when he appeared in the casino, it kind of rubbed salt in the wound when he appeared in the casino, in the eyes of some.

According to reports from Rosenthal, Marte is currently also facing the loss of a close family member. However, his actions have caused a stir among some of his teammates.
Also, with the Diamondbacks clinging to a Wild Card spot and navigating the distraction of Marte’s absence, the stakes couldn’t be higher down the stretch. Anonymous D-backs star claimed they were exhausted by Ketel Marte’s behavior
Ketel Marte’s recent actions have not been received well in the clubhouse. As per Rosenthal, an anonymous D-backs star claimed they were exhausted with his behavior.

In his report for The Athletic, Rosenthal stated that a player summed up this situation as “typical” Marte and was unpleased with how things had unfolded.
Typical Ketel. Just leaving. It is what it is.

In a recent article published by the New York Times, anonymous D-Backs teammates had a chance to speak their minds about the Ketel Marte situation

Rosenthal also stated that Marte was getting frustrated with his own performances. During the series against Atlanta, where he suffered some soreness in his left knee, his emotions started to bubble up. According to some players, the 3-time All-Star told his teammates that they do not need him.
You guys don’t need me. I’m not playing well. It doesn’t matter.
Ketel Marte told his teammates as per Ken Rosenthal
This is not the first time Marte had been on the restricted list. After his home got robbed last year during the All-Star Break, he flew to the Dominican Republic and missed 3 games. He then apologized for his absence. The team is once again expecting an apology from him once he gets activated from the injured list.
For the season, Marte is batting .249 in 118 games with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs. As for the D-backs, they are 71-64 for the season, 1.5 games behind the final Wild Card spot.
