When Kyle Busch joined Richard Childress Racing in 2023, and won three races in within two months, many in the racing community expected the return of glory days for the team as well as the driver. But since then, the No:8 team is going through a disastrous winless streak and ex-champion Kevin Harvick is really concerned about it.
In the latest episode of the Fox Sports Happy Hour podcast, ex-RCR driver Kevin Harvick assessed the performance of Kyle Busch in the light of recent news that his crew chief Randall Burnett was poached by Trackhouse Racing for Conor Zilisch’s 2026 rookie season. Harvick believes it’s going to hurt Busch who already going through the worse phase of his career.
The 2014 champion went onto explain how Kyle Busch mot winning is hurting the sport, and asserted that everyone needs the veteran back on the victory lane. It’s coming from a racer who used to hate the ex-JGR racer with real passion. They now share a better relationship and that means he wants the wingiest racer in all-three national series to get back to elite level.
We all want to see Kyle Busch win. I mean, it’s good for the sport. It’s Kyle freaking Busch, right? There’s nothing worse. And look, as much as I’ve gone through moments where I hated Kyle Busch—hated him with a passion at times—that’s all come full circle. Now we can communicate, and we’ve got a good relationship.
Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
The CARS Tour co-owner admitted that the cant imagines a situation where the racer is going to end his career with multiple years without a win. This not only hurt the team he is racing sport, it affects the sport, the Kyle Busch brand and more. The uncomfortable fact is that nothing going on at RCR shows this situation is going to change any time soon.
But I just can’t imagine Kyle Busch going out like this. It’s bad for everything. It’s bad for the sport. It’s bad for him. It’s bad for everything that says ‘Kyle Busch.’ And I just—I hate to see where it’s at right now.

Kevin Harvick declares RCR and Kyle Busch isn’t handling Randall Burnett situation well
In the same conversation earlier, Harvick explained how the Randall Burnett decision is currently affecting the team. He pointed out that watching how the No:8 teams’ performance has dropped the recent weeks shows they haven’t addressed the situation in a good way as they should.

I think when you look at the performance of the No. 8 the last couple of weeks, it probably reflects that there’s something going on. Usually when those things happen, they’re handled one of two ways—either badly or well.
Kevin Harvick said.
The veteran has once himself in the same situation as Burnett, when he signed with SHR with one year notice. They fortunately were able still win in their last year together by taking the right decision. Now the situation doesn’t seem to right, as they might be scrambling to find a replacement for the veteran crew chief in the last two months of the season, while also fighting for wins.
… But with this situation coming up so late, think about the position it puts RCR in, having to find a crew chief and change the No. 8 car and the way that program is running. So, to me, it doesn’t feel like it’s been handled very well.
Kevin Harvick added.
Kyle Busch and his crew are now in a tough spot. The chances of them winning a race this year is extremely low. The best thing they can do is survive the season, sign the right person to lead the team for 2026 and work the whole off-season to fix their car, in order make the capable of winning races.
