One of the biggest controversies from last Sunday’s Phoenix Cup race was pass-through penalty given to the reigning champion Joey Logano for crossing the yellow line. He was forced to go all the back the field in the restart owing to the penalty and it ruined who would have been a solid day for the No:22 Ford team, as they were only able secure a P13 finish.

Joey Logano’s former rival and 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick via his Happy Hour podcast, shared his perspective of the penalty. He agrees with the call, as it was a black-and-white decision as per the rule and but at the same times the Team Penske driver wasn’t the only one guilty questionable action on restarts that day.

Well this is one of those, it’s a black-and-white call with the way that this rule is written. But if we’re going to call the black-and-white call here, there was definitely a couple situations on the restarts that I would consider questionable. The video right here (of Logano), I mean you can see the car is over the yellow line before the start finish line.

Kevin Harvick said Happy Hour Podcast.

He has no issue with NASCAR making decision as per the rules, but the factor he has problem with is the inconsistency.  Harvick urged NASCAR to have a system where all such black and white calls are being made. The points raised by the veteran seems is fair and is something NASCAR has keep in their mind.

That’s the rule. I’ve got no problem with black-and-white calls, as long as we call the black-and-white calls all the time. Let’s be consistent. Figure out a way out of this one and not that one. Because there’s not that iron fist that is just ruling these Cup Series races and calling those calls like they need to be called.

Kevin Harvick claims it was easy decision from NASCAR

In the same conversation, Harvick highlighted that Joey Logano’s mistake was so blatant, it deserved the penalty. It was an easy decision to make for as the Penske veteran was the only one to cross the yellow line while everyone else kept their distance.

It’s super easy. That call is super easy. Did we see anybody else get close to the start/finish line below the line for the rest of the day? No. Nobody close. Nobody was even close the rest of the day. It’s just like the restarts.

Kevin Harvick said.

While making this call, they have missed out on other violation that also deserved punishments and when those are not called, the racing community warranted to be furious. NASCAR officials have to step up their game and be more consistent.

Kevin Harvick slams NASCAR wins Denny Hamlin example

In the same podcast, Kevin Harvick recalled the times when NASCAR failed enforce same rules, showing clear signs of inconsistency. Denny Hamlin got away without penalty last year a t Richmond. This is making Harvick furious, and he didn’t mince his words about it.

Those inconsistencies, like when they didn’t make that call with Denny (Hamlin at Richmond), that’s the kind of crap I’m tired of. I’m tired of the inconsistencies that go with the officiating. It has been absolute c**p.

Kevn Harvick said.

It isn’t the first time NASCAR is getting called out by the veterans of the sport over inconsistency and nor is going to be the last time unless something changes. It would be interesting to see when those changes would come.
