Kevin Owens handcuffed Roman Reigns

At the 2021 Royal Rumble, Kevin Owens went head to head against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in a Last Man Standing match. For the most part, the match went on smoothly and both the wrestlers gave their 100% to the match.

But unfortunately, the ending of the match was botched due to a handcuff. The spot involved The Big Dog being handcuffed, but the cuffs did not come off when they were supposed to.

This led to major confusion during the match. In order to sell the botch, Owens even had to go off-script. Owens sold a low blow way more than it deserved, in order to justify the delay. This gave more time to Reigns and Paul Heyman to uncuff.

Kevin Owens recently opened up about his Royal Rumble match to Jake Asman. He mentioned that he failed to win because the referee stopped his count midway.

“I handcuffed him to something and I thought I had him, I really did have him. Some screw-ups from the referees and here I am, sitting in my car without the Universal Championship. It goes to show, no matter how prepared you are for a match in WWE, you never know how it’s going to go.”

Road ahead for Owens

Owens attacked Reigns on Smackdown

The feud between Owens and Reigns was likely to be over at WWE Royal Rumble. But Owens attacked Reigns in the final moments of Smackdown. This might be hinting that they might be facing each other at Elimination Chamber.

Till now Owens and Reigns have faced each other thrice for the Universal Championship. But Owens is yet to score a win against The Tribal Chief.
