The Caribbean T20 flavor is well and truly the taste of the cricket town currently, with the original masters of the format smashing balls left, right and center. One great of the 20-over format, Kieron Pollard, came into his own in a recent contest against the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
After retiring from international cricket and the Indian Premier League where he offered so much, fans were craving to see their T20 legend back in action at the commencement of the 2025 Caribbean Premier League.
Trinbago Knight Riders took on the Patriots in match no. 19, and Kieron Pollard showed that life still existed in those biceps. The Knight Riders batting first were going steadily but didn’t look threatening until Pollard arrived in the 11th over.

The big man too started off cautiously before putting his foot on the gas in the 15th over. He smashed leg spinner Navin Bidaisee for three sixes in four balls, with one of them being a massive 93-meter jolt. The former West Indies captain didn’t stop there as he tore into chinaman Waqar Salamkheil as he smashed the bowler for four sixes in four balls.
In the two overs he scored 42 runs himself, sending 7 out of the 8 balls he faced into the stands. That gave the Knight Riders’ innings the much-needed impetus as they reached a total of 179 after the completion of their 20 overs quota.
Pollard, with this heroic, scored an impressive 65 off 29, which eventually proved to be match winning. The Knight Riders won the match by 12 runs, further highlighting the significance of those sixes. Pollard won a well-deserved Player of the Match award for his contributions. With this win, the Knight Riders have qualified for the playoffs and stay at the top of the table.
Do Kieron Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders have it in them to lift the 2025 CPL?
In the 12 seasons of the Caribbean Premier League, there has been no team as successful as the Trinbago Knight Riders. With four titles over the years, the franchise has blasted its dominance over the others with star-studded line ups.

With the likes of Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine all featuring for the side they have shown how the event is to be won. However, in the recent past, the Knights have failed to go the distance, with their last championship win coming in 2020.
With four seasons of title drought, the franchise would be gearing up for a fifth one this time around. They did make it to the final in 2023 but were left wanting in the final. As the table stands after the first 19 matches in the CPL, the Knight Riders are flying high at the top, being the only team to officially qualify.
The sheer dominance seems to be back, and few would doubt a fifth title. However, the team would be wary of the St. Lucia Kings, who are the defending champions and stand just behind them in this year’s race. The Kings have hardly put a foot wrong since the start of last year’s event and look solid as well.
With both these teams distancing themselves from the rest of the teams in the points tally, it is hardly a guess that these units would meet in the eventual final a few weeks down the line. The Knight Riders have struggled to cross the final hurdle in recent years.
Now with a powerful squad once again, they would like to focus deeply on their mental strength to come up with killer blows in crunch moments. They next face St. Lucia Kings which proves to be a rollicking top of the table clash and even a virtual warm-up match prior to the final.
