Klay Thompson has moved to the Mavs from the Dubs

After leaving the Golden State Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks, Klay Thompson is already focused on competing for the championship. The shooting guard was the subject of intense speculation when he entered free agency in July. However, he has since found a new home in Dallas after signing a three-year, $50 million contract.

Speaking about his new team recently, Thompson was optimistic that they can compete better in the league this season. He also expressed satisfaction over the current names on the roster and stated it was appealing.

Me playing with Luka and Kyrie, that’s what was attractive, was seeing how, especially watching that championship series, I was really shocked to see the chemistry with the teammates. At this point in my career, I might not be able to run as fast as everyone, or jump as high, but I can still knock down open shots and I think I can be that missing piece for them. The [defense] can’t guard Kyrie and Luka... I think we have a chance to do something special and win a championship.

According to Klay, the Mavericks can actually achieve their NBA title ambitions with his contributions. Despite not being as mobile as he once was, Klay Thompson is confident he still has much to offer his new teammates. Indeed, with the reputation of the 34-year-old, the franchise acquiring his services makes sense. Thompson is a four-time NBA champion, so his experience will definitely be an asset.

With the Mavericks already with stars like Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic on their roster, their title hopes are looking bright. Moreover, the arrival of Thompson will further bolster this lineup, as all three players are famed for their shooting skills. The trio will be one to watch as the Mavs had a brilliant 2023-24 NBA season, clinching the Western Conference.

Klay Thompson on why he left the Warriors for Mavericks

Lots of eyebrows were raised when Klay Thompson decided to depart from the Golden State Warriors for the Mavericks. Part of the reason was because he accepted a pay cut for the deal to materialize. On the other hand, the Warriors were not a team without depth, as they have stars such as Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Nonetheless, the five-time All-Star still chose to leave. He has since disclosed the reason behind that decision. Speaking to reporters during his introductory press conference at the Mavs, he said:

Sometimes change can spur greatness… I felt like moving on could re-energize me to do something special for the rest of my career.
