Liverpool fans were left disappointed after the club was held to a dismal 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest in a Premier League encounter at the City Ground. The Reds have now lost crucial points in their race to the EPL title, and are on a two match winless run.

The home side entered the match on the back of a seven-game winning streak in all competitions. They hoped to become the only team to defeat Liverpool twice this season. Forest had previously won 1-0 against Liverpool in the EPL, back in September. Interestingly, the Reds have not lost a single Premier League outing since then. The club remains on top of the table with an impressive 47 points.

Forest have been equally impressive under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. They are placed second on the EPL table, and remain six points behind the league leaders. Forest threatened to complete a double against Liverpool when Chris Wood gave them an early 8th minute lead. The 33-year-old center-forward slotted the ball into the bottom right corner after being assisted by Anthony Elanga.

The home side were formidable for an hour as Liverpool failed to get past Nottingham’s defence and goalkeeper Matz Sels. However, a 65th minute double substitution by Arne Slot changed the tides. Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas made their way onto the pitch. Just 22 seconds after they were brought on, the two Reds’ players combined to score the leveler from a brilliant corner.

Nonetheless, Nottingham Forest remained dominant throughout the match, to fans’ utter surprise. They recorded 24 shots, four times that of Liverpool. The Reds will be hoping to bounce back when they next face Brentford, while Forest face button-placed Southampton.

Liverpool fans label Nottingham Forest as ‘kryptonite’, following a 1-1 draw between the two sides

Liverpool lost two crucial points in their race to the EPL title, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest. Forest, who have been this season’s underdogs, have registered a win and a draw against the Reds this season.

Fans and social media users shared their reaction after the match. Some of them labelled Nottingham Forest as Liverpool’s ‘kryptonite.’ Some others compared the Garibaldis to Leicester City’s iconic 2015-16 side that historically won the EPL title. A few rival fans claimed that Liverpool’s second-half equalizer should have been ruled out, for obstructing Forest keeper Matz Sels during the corner.

Nonetheless, both the clubs are enjoying a brilliant campaign this season. Nottingham Forest will be aiming to claim their first EPL title in almost 40 years, since their last win in 1978. They are yet to win a major trophy since 1998. Only time will tell if they can spoil Liverpool’s party at the end of the season.
