One of the primary goals for Richrd Childress Racing veteran Kyle Busch coming into the 2025 season id redemption, after ending 2024 winless and not making it into the playoffs. But he had the worst start towards achieving this goal at the Daytona 500, as a crash and subsequent drama involving NASCAR officials resulted in him DNFing, earning P41 finish.
The No:8 Chevy got caught up in a massive wreck that was started by Joey Logano, with just 20 laps left in the race. Kyle Busch was racing inside the top 10 at the moment. His car suffered some damages, but it fixable with the changes made to NASCAR new DVP rules. So, he towed to the garage area and the RCR crew changed the tires, after evaluating the car and got him back on the track.
"Looks like the fastest car got in a hurry to get to the wreck."

The race was under yellow at the moment; hence he got back into the garage area and his crew started working on the car again. That’s when race officials got involved and parked him, declaring they broke the DVP rules. He had to make the minimum speed limit to get back to the pit to get the car fixed, which he couldn’t do as the race was under yellow. Busch felt he got screwed by NASCAR.
I don’t know, I ain’t seen a replay. But we got beat by NASCAR procedures again, just not being able to get back out on the racetrack.

Kyle Busch airs his frustration on social media
After the race, Busch couldn’t get over the frustration and he took it X, to share how he really feels about the controversy. He claimed that NASCAR didn’t follow their rule properly as he should have gotten three attempts to make minimum speed, but with the yellow flag it wasn’t possible.

Parked by @nascar officials. Rule says you have 3 attempts to make minimum speed. The race never went back green yet. I don’t even think they know their own rules or procedures.

NASCAR also clarified the rules amidst the controversy and asserted that under DVP rule driver can only leave the garage once to reach minimum speed so since he left and never reached minimum, he wasn’t allowed to go back to the garage. The only thing that was allowed was refueling.
