In Short
  • Kyle Juszczyk expresses concerns about potential injury links to an electrical substation near the 49ers' practice facility.
  • The 49ers hired independent investigators to assess the substation theory, finding no evidence of harm.
  • Despite skepticism from the team's front office, Juszczyk believes it's important to ask questions regarding player safety.

An interesting, albeit far-fetched theory arose when several San Francisco 49ers players began experiencing long-term injuries. Apparently, practicing near an electrical substation may have caused soft tissue damage, leaving players prone to injuries.

Of course, no such connection was ever discovered, but the 49ers’ fullback Kyle Juszczyk believes that it does not hurt to ask questions when players’ livelihoods are on the line.

Appearing on a recent segment of the Jim Rome Show, the veteran shared his views on the matter.

I don’t stand next to the microwave while it’s on. Who knows if that does anything to you. But if there’s any chance or inkling or thought process that maybe it has a 1 percent effect on you, I’m going to avoid it.

Kyle Juszczyk told Jim Rome

Last year, the Niners were the worst-hit team in the league, plagued by injuries on all corners of the roster. From Brandon Aiyuk to Fred Warner, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Rickey Pearsall, and Mykel Williams suffered injuries.

Bosa and Warner missed a chunk of the season due to a torn Achilles tendon. Kittle only played 12 total games (including the playoffs) and later raised questions about whether the electrical substation was really the reason behind the string of injuries.

My argument for it is this. Fred [Warner]… practices there and trains there year-round, and he’s had one injury his entire career. So, it’s like—now, did he just evolve, and did he absorbed the radiation? I don’t know.

George Kittle told Complex Sports (H/T: NBC Sports)

Even though the Niners’ front office was skeptical about the substation theory, they still hired independent investigators to examine the possibility. They did not find anything.

We did hire an independent scientist. He basically [said] it was a big nothing burger. We’re safe. We’re in a safe place of work.

Juszczyk is satisfied with Lynch’s statement, but that does not mean he is ready to move on just yet. Fullback may be a dying position in football, but Juszczyk is among the few who play a generous amount of snaps. He fits Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and that’s probably why the Niners gave him a two-year extension even though he will soon turn 35.

Kyle Juszczyk’s wife jokes about receiving death threats

Juszczyk married Kristin in 2019. Kristin works as a fashion designer, and some of her famous creations include turning NFL jerseys into oversized jackets.

After her idea took off, she founded the brand “Offseason.” The 32-year-old New York native has designed jackets for Taylor Swift, Ann Michael Maye, the wife of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, Kittle’s wife Claire, and several others.

As the NFL is currently on a break, Kristin planned a surprise vacation trip for her husband. While booking flight tickets, she accidentally booked the middle aisle for Kyle.

In a TikTok video, she joked that Kyle has been sending her death threats by claiming that the plane journey was the scariest undertaking of his life.

I accidentally booked Kyle a middle seat, and I’m scared for my life. He’s texting me death threats.

Kristin joked

As Juszczyk is under contract with the Niners for the 2026 season, fans can expect to see Kristin cheering for her man from the bleachers at Levi’s Stadium.
