Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-107 in game 3 of the Western Conference Playoff Finals, stretching their lead to 3-0. Notably, the Mavs’ star duo Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving garnered all the praise from the NBA community for their monstrous performance against the Timberwolves in game 3.
Also, Irving shared his views on his and Doncic’s pairing, after the game ended. After one of the reporters asserting Irving that the ‘Irving-Doncic’ duo is getting called, the ‘greatest backcourt in NBA history,’ Irving claimed that it does not mean anything if they do not win anything together.
I mean it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t win a ring together. You know…I say that very responsibly too…not saying that we aren’t great now but there are other backcourts that are more deserving now for that recognition.
Kyrie Irving in the post-match press conference
Interestingly, the Irving and Doncic duo for the Mavs is proving to be one of the best duos in the NBA this 2023-24 season.
On the sports side of things, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving completely outclassed the Timberwolves in game 3, meaning they just need one win to qualify for the WCF Playoff Finals and knock the Timberwolves out. Donic and Irving, both dropped 33 points a piece on the Timberwolves in one of their best games, starting together on the court.
Anthony Edwards trash-talking Kyrie Irving did not go well for him
In game 7, the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated the defending NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, from round two of the NBA playoffs. Notably, Timberwolves player, Anthony Edwards was ecstatic following his team’s victory. However, the Timberwolves’ next opponent was the Dallas Mavericks. Edwards appeared to trash-talk about Mavericks star player, Kyrie Irving.
My matchup [is] going to be Kyrie, So that's going to be fun. We're going to see what I can do versus him. After beating the Nuggets, Anthony Edwards to the reporters
However, Edwards’ statements appear to have backfired pretty poorly on him.
Following Edwards’ statement, not anything has gone his way, as the Mavs and Kyrie Irving have dominated him in all three games of the current Western Conference Finals series, which Dallas leads 3-0. It remains to be seen whether Edwards and company recover from their defeat in Game 4 or are eliminated by the Mavs.
