Spain forward Lamine Yamal scored his first-ever FIFA World Cup goal on June 21, giving Spain an early lead against Saudi Arabia in their Group H clash at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia. Soon after the landmark moment, his girlfriend, Ines Garcia, took to social media to celebrate the 18-year-old’s achievement.

Yamal arrived at the tournament carrying a hamstring injury and was limited to a substitute appearance in Spain’s opening 0-0 draw against Cape Verde. However, he returned to the starting lineup against Saudi Arabia and wasted little time making his presence felt, finding the net in the 10th minute with a composed sliding finish to register his maiden World Cup goal.

Garcia, who has been in attendance throughout the tournament supporting the Spanish star, reacted via her Instagram Story. She reposted a fan message that read, “Ines was right… Lamine is in top form 😏”.

She then added her own message, writing, “The best player in the world is at 2,000,000%, and he’s also in good hands 🥰❤️”.

The strike marked another significant milestone in Yamal’s meteoric rise on the international stage. Widely regarded as one of football’s brightest young talents, the teenager has become a key figure for Spain and entered the World Cup as one of the tournament’s most closely watched stars.

Spain’s clash with Saudi Arabia marked Yamal’s first World Cup start after overcoming the hamstring injury that had cast doubt over his availability ahead of the tournament. The Barcelona star made an immediate statement, opening the scoring inside 10 minutes to help Spain seize control of the match and register his maiden goal on football’s biggest stage.

Garcia’s heartfelt tribute quickly gained traction across social media, with fans joining in to celebrate Yamal’s breakthrough World Cup moment.

Lamine Yamal responds on the field after questions over his fitness

Lamine Yamal’s performance against Saudi Arabia came after days of discussion surrounding his fitness following the hamstring issue that limited his involvement in Spain’s tournament opener.

Before the match, some Saudi supporters playfully questioned whether the Spanish star would make an impact, chanting, “Where is Yamaaaaal? Where is Yamal?” in Atlanta. The remarks referenced Spain’s disappointing draw against Cape Verde, in which Yamal came on as a late substitute but could not help break the deadlock.

The teenager answered those questions quickly. His goal after 10 minutes made him one of only two players aged 18 or younger to open the scoring in a World Cup match, joining Brazilian legend Pele.

Yamal remained a constant threat during his 64 minutes on the pitch as Spain scored four goals against Saudi Arabia. After the match, he posted a brief response on Instagram directed at those who had questioned his presence.

“I’m here,” he wrote alongside photos from the victory.

The Spain international also celebrated his goal with a sujoud and his familiar “304” gesture, a tribute to his hometown of Mataró in Catalonia. The number references the final digits of the area’s postal code, 08304.

The result gave Spain a much needed boost in Group H after its opening draw and marked Yamal’s first World Cup goal in his first tournament appearance.
