Lasha Bekauri of Georgia defied all odds to become the Olympic champion at Tokyo Olympics 2020. He won the gold medal in Judo’s -90kg weight category, and with this achievement, he cemented himself as one of the best Judoka to ever walk this planet.
At the elimination round of 32, he defeated KUCZERA Piotr of Poland with two Waza-aris and moved on to the next round. In the elimination round of 16, he faced and defeated KOCHMAN Li of Israel with two waza-aris again to advance in the quarter-finals. He faced BOBONOV Davlat of Uzbekistan who was penalized with a direct Hansoku-make for safety reasons, and Lasha moved in the semi-finals. He then faced and defeated IGOLNIKOV Mikhail of ROC with a waza-ari to secure his place in the finals, his gold medal bout was against TRIPPEL Eduard of Germany and he defeated him with a Waza-ari to become the Olympic champion.
Eduard Trippel of Germany secured the silver medal for his country
Eduard defeated Nemanja Majdov of Serbia at the elimination round of 32, and then Donghan Gwak of Korea at the elimination round of 16 to secure his place in the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, he faced and defeated Krisztian Toth of Hungary and moved into the semi-finals. It was a tough fight at the semi-final but he defeated Mihael Zgank of Turkey to secure his spot in the finals. He faced Lasha Bekauri of Georgia in the finals, but Lasha Bekauri bested him in this contest and Eduard had to settle with a silver medal.
Krisztian Toth of Hungary and Davlat Bobonov of Uzbekistan won the bronze medals
TOTH Krisztian defeated two opponents before he lost the quarter-final bout to Eduard of Germany, he then was placed at the repechage rounds and secured two victories to win the bronze medal for his country.
Dalvat also defeated two opponents before the lost the quarter-final to the gold medalist Lasha Bekauri of Georgia. Dalvat was then placed in the repechage column and he won two straight fights to get the bronze medal.
