The Los Angeles Lakers are likely scrambling to repair the damage caused by an ESPN article detailing Jeanie Buss‘ feelings about LeBron James‘ time with her team.

The governor herself has come out to deny the article’s claims, making it clear that she is appreciative of what “the King” has done for her franchise. Even then, this has opened up a can of worms, with critics lining up to take shots at the all-time leading scorer for allegedly using his ‘power’ alongside agent Rich Paul to have his way with the franchise.

The Los Angeles Lakers were pretty freaking irrelevant until LeBron James arrived. He arrived in LA in 2018 and absolutely, positively returned them to relevancy.

Stephen A. Smith said on his show

This was a surprising defense from one of James’ recent ‘foes’, as no one expected Stephen A. Smith to be the one who came to the Lakers’ superstar’s defense.

The ESPN analyst doubled down on the same opinion he said on First Take earlier. Smith acknowledged that it is possible that Baxter Holmes‘ article had some truth about what Jeanie Buss felt. However, that does not take away the fact that LeBron James is the reason the Lakers emerged from being an irrelevant franchise ever since Kobe Bryant retired.

Stephen A. Smith also pointed out that maybe the Akron native should have displayed some gratitude to his franchise for drafting his son, Bronny James. But that does not mean LeBron James didn’t deserve to get that favor after what he has given to the league.

Draymond Green chides Jeanie Buss’ opinion on LeBron James not showing gratitude for drafting his son

Even though Stephen A. Smith’s defense of LeBron James came as a surprise, no one will be shocked when Draymond Green, one of the Lakers’ star’s best friends, comes out to talk about this drama.

Do you bow down and like kiss the ring and say, ‘Thank you, I’m appreciative?’ I’ve seen LeBron speak out how he’s appreciative of the organization for giving Bronny a chance.

Draymond Green said on his show

The Golden State Warriors star admitted that the presence of the four-time league MVP did play a part in the Lakers being influenced to draft Bronny James.

However, that does not mean that Jeanie Buss expects her most important player to ‘bow down’ to her. Green then mentioned that either way, James Jr. had proved that he was a worthy pick. Therefore, Draymond Green felt this was too much on the franchise governor’s part to expect, as either way, LeBron James’ influence has brought nothing but success for her team.

Former 6th Man of the Year does not think LeBron James cares about ESPN article

As this discourse reached several platforms, those on Run It Back were discussing why LeBron James should not be affected by the ESPN article.

We are talking about a guy that a city burnt his jersey… and he still went back and won them a championship. You think he cares about a little article?

Lou Williams said

As soon as the former three-time sixth Man of the Year said this, show host Michelle Beadle reminded her colleagues that it seems James did care about the article, as he released a highlight video hours after ESPN published it.

That seemed to her as if it were a statement to Jeanie Buss and the Lakers’ front office. However, the panel reiterated that LeBron James has proven in the past that narratives do not end up impacting his decisions, especially about his career.
