NBA superstar LeBron James has finally donned the Philadelphia 76ers jersey. Opting out of a traditional introductory press conference, the four-time champion bypassed a formal unveiling ceremony entirely.
After spending eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers, James did not re-sign a contract extension and became a free agent for the fourth time in his career. A number of teams were linked to ‘King James’ in the summer as he took his time to decide on his next destination.
In the end, he joined the 76ers on a two-year contract. The decision surprised many as James did not share any history or previous affiliation with the city or franchise.
Following their first training session, James left the team’s practice in a helicopter. During his press conference, Tyrese Maxey laughed about hearing his new teammate take off in a helicopter after practice while he was waiting outside the facility due to car issues.
I ain’t gonna lie, that was funny. One of us left in a helicopter, the other one was sitting on the curb.

One of the main questions asked after James’ move to Philly was whether he would live in the city, as he would be far away from his family and had no prior connections to the area. It was not possible for him to relocate his daughter and wife due to school and their business ventures, respectively.
Hence, it was reported that James would live in New York alone and would commute to Philly back and forth by helicopter. While he may have taken a huge pay cut to join the 76ers, the 41-year-old is a billionaire and one of the richest athletes in the world.
Meanwhile, Maxey suffered sudden car problems and was left stranded outside the facility. The hilarious irony saw him burst out laughing due to their lifestyle difference.
LeBron James headed back to New York in a helicopter
The vibes and excitement surrounding the 76ers are very high at the moment. With less than a month to go for the new season, the expectations seem to get higher with every passing day. While James may be at the backend of his career, his motivation and goal remains to win the championship next year.
During Anfernee Simons‘ press conference after their first practice session, a loud sound was heard outside the training facility. It was later revealed to be James’ helicopter.
While Anfernee Simons was answering questions to the media members after Sixers practice Tuesday a loud droning noise could be heard coming from outside the facility: a helicopter for LeBron James to take to head to New York.

LeBron James is well known for living a luxurious lifestyle. The commute from New York to Philly would take roughly two hours. But with money to spare, the King decided to cut short his journey to 45 minutes as he will travel to Philly via a helicopter.
It will allow James to have more free time and work on his recovery at home. Hence, it makes sense for him to bypass the grueling road-trip drive everyday.
Tyrese Maxey will have a new role with the 76ers after LeBron James signing
The 76ers had arguably their greatest ever offseason in terms of acquisitions. Before signing James as a free agent, they traded for Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster trade.

On paper, their starting five may be the most dominant in the league but they will need to work on their team chemistry. It is not easy for so many stars to gel well together as several super teams have failed in the past.
Last month, Maxey noted that they needed to keep their egos aside if they wanted to have any chance of winning next season.
NBA reporter, Rachel Nichols, reported that Tyrese Maxey expects to have a new role for the 76ers in the 2026-27 campaign.
Tyrese Maxey says he’ll be playing off the ball more this year, and that he anticipates several different players will be bringing the ball up the floor.

Maxey is clearly unfazed by stepping aside and allowing James to handle the ball more often. He shares a good relationship with the four-time champion and has played an instrumental role in recruiting James to the 76ers in the summer.
