In Short
  • LeBron James has demonstrated exceptional performance in the playoffs, leading to speculation he could play until age 45.
  • Kendrick Perkins believes James can maintain his high level of play for another four years.
  • Rich Paul states the Lakers must play perfectly to have any chance against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Los Angeles Lakers might be down 0-1 at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder. But no one can argue that LeBron James once again proved that he can be a top contributor at this stage of the season.

No other 41-year-old has managed to put together a season of this sort, as most tend to struggle with conditioning at this advanced stage of their careers.

James has always been hailed for his impressive fitness, but no one envisioned him stepping up in this manner at a time when fatigue tends to slow even the best players.

I think Bron can play till he’s 45, to be honest with you. I think he has another four years of this level of play… What he’s been doing in this postseason, last night… he’s been fantastic.

Kendrick Perkins said on The Pat McAfee Show

The ESPN analyst made it clear that his former teammate has given every indication that he can continue playing for a few more years. LeBron James’ conditioning and performances are good enough that he can choose to play longer than what everyone expected.

At the same time, Kendrick Perkins reiterated that the Game 1 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder was on the other players. No way can the Lakers succeed if the backcourt of Marcus Smart and Austin Reaves play like their did.

However, the former champion stressed that the criticism towards Reaves has been a bit over the top. Since he has just returned from injury, fans should give the undrafted guard a bit of grace.

LeBron James’ agent does not believe Lakers have a chance against OKC

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers played good defense against the OKC, the team lacked the offensive scoring needed to win a game. Rich Paul, LeBron James’ agent, believes that the team has to be perfect if they are to have a chance.

The goal for this team is to just keep things close. The Lakers almost have to play a perfect game in order to just be in striking distance. Not to win… You can’t miss a box out. You can’t be lazy with the pass. You can’t get caught ball-watching. You can’t not get back. When you play a team like the Thunder, you have to be fundamentally sharp.

NBA Courtside quoted Rich Paul from the Game Over Podcast

The Klutch Sports’ CEO believes that only with perfection can LeBron James and the other men in blue hope of sniffing a win or two. But he still does not give them a chance to win the series.

Even though he is aware that many critics are weighing his client’s legacy in the fate of this series, Paul does not see this as a fair fight, knowing how deep and good the Thunder are.

LeBron James and his teammates have to be at their best to avoid a sweep

Critics did not get a chance to celebrate when LeBron James powered his Lakers to win the first-round series against the Houston Rockets.

But they will be watching the second round keenly to point fingers at him. It will be extremely difficult to pull off a win, but what they can do is avoid a sweep.

Tomorrow’s Game 2 will be at Paycom Center. With Oklahoma fans working as the team’s 16th member, it will be a miracle if the Lakers manage to win.

The next two games, however, are at Crypto.com Arena. If the Lakers’ faithful manage to rile up their team, and the players play to their best, it is possible that they could win a game or two. Avoid a sweep, and LeBron James’ naysayers will not be able to say much.
