With every passing day, a new rumor or report emerges about LeBron James‘ future. It is astonishing that even after 23 years in the NBA, he continues to grab attention like nobody else. He has been the major talking point of the entire offseason so far.
James is testing free agency for the first time eight years after declining a new contract from the Los Angeles Lakers. It is the fourth time he has become a free agent in his 23-year career.
While it has been over three weeks since he entered the free agency market, he is in no rush to make any announcement at the moment. He has not yet decided where he plans to play next.
According to Yahoo Sports writer Kevin O’Connor, James is waiting to see if any of his suitors would be interested in acquiring his former teammates, Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving.
Sources believe LeBron James is slow-playing his decision to see if any of his suitors can find a way to land Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving. The problem is that AD and Kyrie don’t seem available for trade.

Kevin O’Connor’s reports are just a theory at the moment. No team interested in LeBron James seems to be anywhere near in negotiating a deal for either of his former teammates.
He may be heading into his 24th season, but there is still no bigger name in the league than James. The level of attention and hype surrounding the King at this stage of his career shows that he is still very much the face of the NBA.
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving reunion in Cleveland?
Even the NBA Commissioner is waiting for James to make an announcement soon, as they are yet to fix the schedule for the upcoming season. However, James prefers to do things his way.
One of the clubs actively in the hunt for the four-time champion is his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. James has spent 11 seasons with the Cavs over two stints. He led them to one NBA Final in his first stint and four NBA Finals in four years in his second stint.
His second stint was highly successful as he played alongside Kyrie Irving. The two formed one of the most dangerous duos in the league as they led the Cavs to their first and only championship in 2016. Irving left the Cavs in 2017, one year before James.
The duo had great chemistry on the court, but it was reported that Irving wanted to leave James’ shadow and have a team of his own. It was unfortunate, as many believed that the two stars could have won more titles together.
However, it is not known if the Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading away Irving, who missed the entire 2025-26 campaign due to an ACL tear. The Cavs may re-sign James Harden, which would make a move for Irving highly unlikely.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Golden State?
James and Anthony Davis played for 5.5 seasons together before the Lakers decided to trade the latter to the Mavs for Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade at the trade deadline last year. Davis’ time in Dallas did not go according to plan, and he was moved to the Washington Wizards this year.

The former Lakers teammates still share a good relationship with each other. James demanded the Lakers front office to trade for Davis in 2019 after missing the playoffs in the previous season.
The two joined forces and delivered the Lakers their first championship in a decade. While their time together ended abruptly, it looks like James still desires to play with the big man.
The Warriors were linked to both stars, but their interest in Davis has died down as the Wizards want to keep their star player for the next season. If O’Connor’s theory is true, then it may be time for James to move on and decide on his future club without keeping his two former teammates in mind.
