UFC legend Matt Brown recently gave his takes on the UFC 300 fight card. While addressing the main event, Brown commented on Alex Pereira‘s technical abilities and how Jamahal Hill could take advantage of certain flaws. He also compared the two light heavyweights to two former professional boxers.
Matt Brown recently sat down for an interview on MMAFightingonSBN. There he discussed the upcoming UFC 300 event with Damon Martin and Laura Sanko. During the discussion, Brown expressed his criticism of Alex Pereira’s striking and how Jamahal Hill could make the best out of it.
There are untechnical guys like Felix Trinidad or Ricardo Mayorga right? Guys that get to a very very high level and get championship belts without technical striking. They just don't reach the Floyd Mayweather status.Matt Brown via Fighter vs. Writer
In 2004, former world champions Félix Trinidad and Ricardo Mayorga fought for the NABC middleweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In round eight, Trinidad dropped Mayorga three times, forcing the referee to stop the fight and give Trinidad the TKO win. Their fight was more of a brawl than pristine technical execution and Brown had the same prediction for the Pereira vs. Hill fight.
Brown thinks it is a tough matchup for Pereira because he was not as technical as people thought him to be. According to Brown, Pereira’s gigantic physique and knockout power are a huge part of his arsenal, not just his technique. But Brown acknowledged that despite technical prowess, Pereira’s method works for him and someone like Jamahal Hill can go exploit it.
Jamahal Hill is confident he will dominate Alex Pereira at UFC 300
Jamahal Hill is looking forward to reclaiming his light-heavyweight title at UFC 300. Hill had to abandon his title due to injury, which is when Pereira swooped in from the middleweight division and took up the position. This fight becomes Pereira’s first light heavyweight title defense.
However, Hill is not happy with Pereira’s popularity with the crowd and the popular prediction that Pereira will win the fight via knockout. In a recent media scrum, Hill addressed this and predicted a win for himself.
He don’t have that option of ‘I’m gonna see if I can take him down.’ He grabs me, he’s f***ing done!Jamahal Hill via UFC 300 media scrum
Hill believed he matched up well with Alex Pereira on the feet. As such, the Brazilian champion did not have the skill set to hunt for a takedown. Hence, ‘Sweet Dreams’ remains confident of winning back the title he never lost and years to start his proper reign as the champion.
