Le’Veon Bell Calls Adam Gase “Dumbest Coach Ever”, Brutaly Exposes Him

Le'Veon Bell spent two years with the Jets during Adam Gase's tenure, whom he believes is the dumbest coach he has ever had due to a conversation they had before a Bengals game in 2019.

In Short
  • Le'Veon Bell criticized Adam Gase, calling him the "dumbest coach ever" during a recent interview.
  • Bell recounted a baffling conversation with Gase about throwing deep passes in rainy conditions before a game against the Bengals.
  • The Jets, favored to win, lost to the Bengals 22-6, contributing to Gase's poor coaching record of 9-23 during his tenure.

Le’Veon Bell‘s NFL career was short but eventful. He set records, sat out an entire season following a major fallout, and even played, according to him, for the worst head coach in NFL history, Adam Gase. And not just the worst, but the “dumbest coach” in the NFL. Bell doesn’t want to see Gase coaching even little league teams.

On a recent segment of Respectfully, The Justin Laboy Show, Bell recalled a conversation he had with Gase prior to playing against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019. Gase told Bell that he was going to let Sam Darnold throw 40+ passes because it was going to rain during the game.

Gase’s blunt statement baffled Bell. Typically, coaches tend to avoid throwing deep passes, as it’s hard for receivers to catch a wet ball. And it’s not that players can use stickum anymore, like the good old days. Gase followed it up with an explanation that made Bell’s jaw drop.

He said, ‘Think about it… The receivers, they are running their route… You know where they’re going, but the defender don’t know where they are going, so they might slip and we can get a big play.’

Le’Veon Bell said

The Bengals stepped into the game on the back of 11 straight defeats that year. The Jets were the overwhelming favorites to secure a win, rain or no rain. A quick research revealed that the Bengals won 22-6. Darnold completed 28 passes from 48 attempts for 239 yards. Bell caught 4 passes for 35 yards.

Bell stayed silent because he didn’t want to create a media ruckus, and rightly so. A year ago, after the Pittsburgh Steelers placed a second franchise tag on him. He’s scheduled to make $14.5 million this season but elected to sit out the entire year.

The media ran the story as if there were never tomorrow. Bell eventually entered free agency after the Steelers let him go. He arrived in New York and signed a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the Jets.

Gase joined the Jets around the same time as Bell. He lasted for just two seasons and had a 9-23 record.

Le’Veon Bell calls out Micah Parsons for his unwarranted opinion on Philadelphia Eagles receiver Makai Lemon

On day one of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles traded with the Dallas Cowboys to select wide receiver Makai Lemon at 20. Lemon appeared on the Bleacher Report draft day show to speak with Micah Parsons and Malik Nabers.

After Lemon called the Eagles a “great organization” and Philadelphia his home, Parsons began to laugh.

Congratulations, bro. You had me with everything but the greatest organization, bro. I was trying to hold it, bro. I was really trying to hold it in.

Parsons told Lemon (H/T: Heavy)

Parsons then encouraged Lemon to take notes from Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith‘s careers and noted that it’s rare for rookies to come in and have instant success.

Bell did not like Parsons’ condescending tone toward Lemon and the Eagles. He took a shot at the Packers’ edge rusher on Twitter/X.

I love Micah Parsons as a football player, GREAT player, but I hate the way he handled interviewing that young wide out drafted to the Eagles. Young man [Lemon was] just happy to be drafted. That’s not the time to diss an organization. Bro, not even a Cowboy anymore. It’s just lame.

Bell tweeted

Parsons quickly replied to Bell’s post.

I was speaking with Lefkoe! Lefkoe introduced the Eagles as the greatest organization in football! I’ve never handled any interview in that manner!

Parsons wrote

Before the Cowboys struck a trade package with the Packers, the Eagles tried to hijack the deal. However, the Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, had no intention of trading within the division.

Bell played eight seasons in the NFL. He racked up 1595 carries for 6554 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns. The Michigan State alum also caught 399 passes for 3289 yards and scored 9 touchdowns in 96 career games.
