Emilia Romagna GP: Lewis Hamilton in awe of Lando Norris after backing podium
Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris
If one thought that they saw enough drama in the season opener in Bahrain, they were surely wrong. As the race in Imola proved even more entertaining as Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris battled it out for P2, it was surely a smacking contest which the 7-time World Champion eventually won.
However, Lando Norris’ podium finished was appreciated well enough by mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. After the race the latter praised both Max Verstappen and Lando Norris for their sheer pace and aggression shown in challenging him.
What did Lewis Hamilton say about Lando Norris?
“Congratulations to Max; he did a fantastic job today – just solid work from him. And also, to Lando Norris, what an awesome job, and it’s so good to see McLaren back up there,” Lewis Hamilton said.
“On my side, it was not the greatest days and it’s the first time I’ve made a mistake in a long time. But I’m grateful I was able to bring the car home today.”
Hamilton, who started the race from the pole position, soon lost his advantage and, for the rest of the race, vied to recover his position, and in the process, he went further down in the order.
“There was only one dry line, and I guess I was in too much of a hurry to get by everyone. I came to the inside, and I could see it was wet, and I was trying to stop, but the thing wouldn’t stop, and it sent me off.
“A bit unfortunate, but I’m really, really grateful we were able to get going again and to get some points for the team was really important today.”
