Spanish GP: Lewis Hamilton secures third win of the season; Max Verstappen finishes P2

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton secured the third win of his season, as he finished P1 at the Spanish GP on Sunday. The Briton claimed his 100th pole position in Saturday’s qualifying, as he recorded his fastest lap in the Q3 session. Max Verstappen finished P2 for the third time this season, whereas, Valtteri Bottas finished on the third spot for the second consecutive race.

It was a strategic masterclass from Mercedes, as they made a decision to pit Lewis Hamilton for a second time. However, Red Bull decided to stick with a one-stop pit strategy with Max Verstappen, which could have cost him the victory. Max Verstappen was leading the race for majority of the time, but Lewis Hamilton surpassed him just towards the final few laps.

Charles Leclerc was impressive on Sunday, as he finished P4 at the Spanish GP. He had kept Valtteri Bottas at bay for half of the race, but in the end, the Mercedes drive was too quick for the Ferrari driver. Sergio Perez also gained three spots in the main race, as he finished P5. The Mexican started from the eighth spot in the qualifying session.

Daniel Ricciardo finished on the sixth spot, whereas, Carlos Sainz finished seventh. Lando Norris finished in the top 10 for a fourth consecutive time, as he finished P8. Esteban Ocon lost places in the main race, finishing ninth, whereas, Pierre Gasly finished P10.
