Lionel Messi to stay at Barcelona?

Lionel Messi might just end up staying at FC Barcelona after the transfer saga.

After all the Messi transfer saga, Lionel Messi staying at Barcelona could also be a possibility. Yesterday, Jorge Messi, father and agent of Lionel Messi met with Barcelona president Bartomeu. Jorge Messi on arriving at Barcelona said that he cannot see his son staying there. However, after questioned by Cuatro television channel, he left the prospect open.

In the first meeting between Jorge Messi and Bartomeu, there was no agreement between both sides. Messi wants to leave for free this year due to a reported contract. Meanwhile, Barcelona are firm on their stance of 700 million euros release clause.

Messi has a contract until 2021. Barcelona want to offer him a new 2-year contract with improved wages. Meanwhile, Messi has been reportedly wanting to leave FC Barcelona to join hands with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Since the 8-2 loss at the hands of Bayern, Messi has not spoken publicly even though he is the captain of FC Barcelona. Even after the transfer saga started, there has not been an official statement from Messi. However, Messi missed the PCR tests which are mandatory for every player. The Argentine was also missing from the first training session ahead of the new season.

The next round of negotiations will take place between Jorge Messi and Bartomeu, but the reports suggests that Messi staying at Barcelona is a possibility.
