Lionel Messi has added another high-profile appearance to his growing list of FIFA World Cup-related campaigns, this time sharing the screen with Tom Holland in a promotional video for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The commercial, released by Sony Pictures on June 30, features the Argentina captain and Inter Miami CF star meeting Holland, who appears as Peter Parker, inside a coffee shop. The promotion arrives ahead of the film’s theatrical release on July 31.

In the video, Messi walks into the cafe while looking at a phone displaying a tracker as part of the citywide search for Spider-Man. He then comes face to face with Parker, who quietly excuses himself and disappears into a back room.

Moments later, Spider Man emerges in Parker’s place. Messi delivers a brief line before joining the superhero on a web slinging trip across the city skyline, forming the centerpiece of the promotional campaign.

Sony Pictures shared the advertisement across its social media platforms alongside the caption: “Who’s got next? #SpiderManBrandNewDay is in theatres July 31. Get tickets now.”

The collaboration marks one of Messi’s most recognizable entertainment appearances outside football. The eight time Ballon d’Or winner has frequently appeared in major advertising campaigns tied to global sporting events, particularly during FIFA World Cup tournaments, partnering with several international brands in recent years.

The crossover also brings together two of the world’s most recognizable figures from sport and entertainment. Holland returns as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Messi continues leading Argentina during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lionel Messi leads World Cup Scoring race despite covering the least distance

Lionel Messi’s appearance in the Spider-Man promotion comes as he continues producing remarkable numbers on the pitch during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 39-year-old has scored six goals in Argentina’s opening group stage matches after recording a hat trick against Algeria before adding goals against Austria and Jordan.

His six goals in approximately 200 minutes have left him level with France forward Kylian Mbappé in the Golden Boot race, ahead of Norway’s Erling Haaland and England captain Harry Kane.

According to Opta, Messi also became the leading scorer in men’s FIFA World Cup history with 19 career goals, moving ahead of Miroslav Klose.

His tournament statistics have drawn additional attention because of his workload. Among 618 outfield players who played at least 90 minutes during the group stage, Messi ranked first in goals scored but 618th in distance covered per 90 minutes, averaging 8.1 kilometers.

Argentina’s tactical setup has allowed midfielders Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández and Alexis Mac Allister to shoulder much of the pressing and defensive work, while Lautaro Martínez creates attacking space.

The system is designed to maximize Messi’s influence in advanced areas while managing his movement throughout matches. Argentina advanced from the group stage with Messi in top-scoring form as they continue their defense of the FIFA World Cup title.
