Liverpool have been linked with a lot of defenders over the summer and even now. Liverpool made the strange decision of not replacing outgoing defenders Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren. That decision has come to bite them back with all the injuries they’ve suffered.
The script keeps getting bad for Liverpool
Going into this season, Liverpool made the weird decision to not sign a replacement for Dejan Lovren. Adam Lallana left Liverpool but it didn’t mean much as they had a lot of midfielders already. Despite this they went on to sign Thiago Alcantara, amid no contract extension for Georginio Wijnaldum being done. Diogo Jota arrived and when everyone was thinking that he was going to be playing a bit part role, he has forced Jurgen Klopp to change his front three into a front four.
Kostas Tsimikas was signed to give cover for Andy Robertson and give him the much needed rest he deserves. Andy Robertson used the signing as a positive influence and has put in his best performance this season and is in contention for being named PFA Player of the Year if he can continue his performances.
Reports from Corriere dello Sport have come in that Liverpool has made a €30 million bid to sign 21 year old Perr Schuurs from Ajax. This is perceived to be an emergency signing in order to tide over the injury crisis Liverpool is going through. Their first choice centre-back pairing Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are injured for the season while Fabinho has been converted to a temporary centre-back.
The signing of Perr Schuurs could mean that Fabinho can be made a deep lying midfielder as he prefers to be. Liverpool’s best midfield at this moment has him in the center with Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara in the either sides of him.
Again, this is just another transfer rumor and it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Perr Schuurs is just one of the defenders who have been linked to Liverpool in this season. Ozan Kabak, Dayot Upamecano, Omar Colley, Ben White, Ezequiel Garay were all linked with Liverpool and still are.
