In an interview given to French sports newspaper l’Equipe, Italian tennis star and current World no. 34 Jannik Sinner has praised the Big Three of tennis. Sinner believes that players like him are lucky to be playing in the same era as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal

Last year at the French Open Quarter Finals he played a great game of tennis against Nadal. Although he lost that match 7-6 6-4 6-1, he impressed a lot of people and especially Rafael Nadal.

This year before the Australian season began, he was invited to a two week pre tournament practice in Australia by Rafael Nadal. The nineteen year old acknowledged that practicing with Nadal was a big lesson for him. He believes that Nadal gave him a lot of tools in terms of how to stay there on the court longer, and fight for a match.

Sinner picked up a back injury in his first round encounter at the Montpellier Open in France. In the match against Aljaž Bedene, which Sinner lost in three sets 6-3 2-6 6-7, he hurt his lower back. Although Sinner was hopeful that he could recover in time for the Rotterdam Open, he couldn’t.

The Italian teenager has had a great last few months on the tour. After the French Open where he got the praises of Nadal himself, he played in the Semi Finals of the 2020 Bett1Hulks Championship. He lost that match to the eventual tournament winner Alexander Zverev. Next he won the Sofia Open beating Vasek Pospisil in the finals.

Next he had another tournament win. He beat Stefano Travaglia to win the Adelaide International. In the Australian Open though he couldn’t replicate that form and lost in the first round to 11th seed Denis Shapovalov. Irrespective of that setback, great things are expected from this future tennis superstar Jannik Sinner.
