WATCH: “Real MVP denies Reel MVP” – Luka Doncic is going VIRAL for clutch block against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Dallas Mavericks head home with the series lead in their hands.
Luka Doncic makes clutch block on Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to help Dallas Mavericks take playoff series lead
The Oklahoma City Thunder knew going into game 5 of their playoff series that they needed to build on the momentum from the previous game. Today they tried their level best to use that momentum to win, despite the Dallas Mavericks leading. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander attempted to score and bring the deficit down. Only for Luka Doncic to make a timely clutch block, which fans have since made viral on the internet.
With 1 minute remaining in the game, the Mavericks tried to increase their lead and were rejected at the rim. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took the loose ball and raced up the floor to try for a layup. Only for the backtracking Luka Doncic to make a timely block to deny the Thunder superstar and regain possession. Consequently, this effectively sealed the game as the Thunder were down 9 points and the possession advantage with the Mavericks.
Had Doncic not blocked the shot, it could have brought down the deficit to 7. Giving the Oklahoma City Thunder ample time to try and regain the lead. A move which could have effectively handed the series advantage to the young Thunder.
Instead, the battle between the two MVP runners-up came down to that block. Now the Dallas Mavericks go back home with a chance to win the series.
