Dallas Mavericks' Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic and Boston Celtics legends Paul Pierce and Ray Allen
Recently, Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce challenged the notion that Dallas Mavericks guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the “clutchest duo” in league history. Pierce made his comments on Fox’s Undisputed, as he cited his own experience with Ray Allen as a clutch duo.
Pierce acknowledged the impressive performance of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Game 3 against the Timberwolves but emphasized that there are other notable duos in NBA history, such as Curry-Klay, Curry-Durant, LeBron-Kyrie, and Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen.
Me and Ray Allen have something to say about that. We might have something to say about that as far as clutch duo. We got Curry-Klay, Curry-Durant, LeBron-Kyrie. Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen. We gotta wait and see what happens, let's see if they can put together a championship and then we will discuss this and where they rank as clutch duo. Kyrie clearly has some big moments in the finals. Let's see if Luka can have some big moments in the finals. They will be in the finals and if he can duplicate what he did in this series in the final, it’s gonna be hard to argue against them.Paul Pierce said on Fox’s Undisputed
Pierce emphasized that to be considered the clutchest duo, Doncic, and Irving need to win a championship together. He also noted that Kyrie has already had big moments in the Finals, but Luka needs to duplicate his impressive performance in the ongoing series and in the Finals to solidify their claim as the most clutch duo.
Pierce’s comments will surely spark a debate about the greatest clutch duos in NBA history. While Doncic and Uncle Drew have shown impressive chemistry and clutch genes, they still need to achieve championship success to be considered among the all-time greats.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combine to deliver a clutch performance in Game 3 win over the Timberwolves
The Dallas Mavericks are one win away from returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2011, after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-107 at home on Sunday. The win gave the Mavericks a commanding 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving once again proving clutch and made big plays down the stretch to secure the win.
Doncic and Irving finished with 33 points each, combining for an impressive 22 of 40 from the field and 8 of 17 from three-point range. In contrast, the Timberwolves relied heavily on Anthony Edwards, who had a strong game with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists, but received little support from his teammates especially Karl-Anthony Towns who struggled, as he shot just 5 of 18 from the field and 0 of 8 from three-point range.
The Mavericks’ dominant performance has put them on the cusp of a return to the NBA Finals as they need just one more win to advance. The Timberwolves, meanwhile, face an uphill battle, which no team in the league’s history has overcome, coming back from a 0-3 deficit in a playoff series.
