Luka Doncic re-signs with the Dallas Mavericks a super max contract extension

The clouds around Luka Doncic’s dilemma have finally cleared. The Slovenian superstar has taken his pick and will be staying back at the team for the next 5-years atleast. Since Luka Doncic was turning into a free agent this season, he was set to move to a better team. However, Mavericks were keen to let their star stay here. They already made a lot of investment to build a good atmosphere around Luka Doncic for his overall development. Recently both of them agreed to a $207 million max contract extension being the highest for any young athelet in the NBA history.
Luka Doncic, 22, is the first ever player to be eligible for such a rookie extension. Mavs made sure they get everything for the Slovenian including the best support staff at the team as well. They urged Dirk Nowitzki to join their executive team who has a bond with Doncic. It is highly expected to by him to put numbers this season after a successful Olympic tenure at Tokyo.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, general manager Nico Harrison, coach Jason Kidd, assistant general manager Michael Finley, special advisor Dirk Nowitzki and director of player health and performance Casey Smith all landed in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Monday to present Dončić with the actual contract. “Today is a dream come true,” Dončić told ESPN in a statement. Mavericks have made all possible ways to make him look back at the team.

He added, “The game of basketball has given me so much and has taken me to so many amazing places. I am humbled and excited to remain in Dallas as part of the Mavericks and appreciate the support of my fans.” Averaging high last season, the fans expect him to be back to his old form once again. Luka Doncic averaged 27.7 points and 8.6 assists last season. After carrying the team into Olympics and getting them to 4th position has increased the expectation level at the club and fans end.
Under Luka Doncic, the Mavericks have made the playoffs the past two seasons, although they have yet to advance beyond the first round. Before entering the NBA, Doncic helped his home country of Slovenia win a gold medal in the EuroBasket tournament in 2017. He then led Real Madrid to a EuroLeague title in 2018 and was the league’s MVP as well. His responsibility increases with the upcoming season as Dallas Mavericks prepare for more.
