The Los Angeles Dodgers are in huge trouble as they lost Game 2 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The loss in this game saw them fall 0-2 down in the best-of-seven championship series. Despite this, minority owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson has backed them and sent a defiant message, claiming the series is “far from over.”

The two-time defending champions were hoping for a strong response in the second game of the series after a 2-1 loss in Game 1. After leading 1-0, a solo home run from Brice Turang in the 4th inning and a single from Luis Lara in the 5th inning turned things around for the Brewers and helped them win 2-1.

For Game 2, the Dodgers had Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. Last year, he tossed a complete game against the NL Central side and helped his side take a 2-0 series lead.

This time, the 2025 World Series MVP was unable to have the same impact. He lasted just 2.2 innings and gave up 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, and had just 1 strikeout.

Offensively, the Dodgers’ bat went cold once again as they registered just 3 hits. They did score 4 runs, but none came as a result of a base hit.

Meanwhile, the Brewers had 12 hits and put up 7 runs on the board. William Contreras was the hero for them as his solo home run in the 5th inning tied the game at 4-4 before a single from him in the 6th inning put his side up 5-4.

Turang, who had a huge home run in Game 1, hit a single in the bottom of the 8th inning to extend the lead to 6-4. A Jake Bauers single later in the inning made it a 7-4 game. The Brewers held on and took a 2-0 lead in the series.

The Dodgers now have a huge mountain to climb. The last time they were 0-2 down in a playoff series was in the 2023 National League Division Series (NLDS), where they got swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

With the series now shifting to LA, Magic Johnson remained optimistic about the Dodgers turning things around at home.

We’re now down 2-0 in the NLCS Series after tonight’s loss against the Brewers, but the @Dodgers are heading back to home field for the next 3 games and the Series is far from over!

Coming back from this, however, will require a huge performance. In MLB history, only 16 times out of 95 has a team come back from 0-2 down to win a best-of-seven postseason series.

The last time the Dodgers did so was in 2020. In an NLCS played at a neutral ground, the Dodgers (who were the designated home team) lost Games 1 and 2 against the Atlanta Braves.

Following a 15-3 win in Game 3, they lost Game 4 and were on the brink of elimination. However, wins in Games 5, 6, and 7 saw them complete a huge comeback and advance to the World Series, where they beat the Tampa Bay Rays to win their first title in 32 years.

Dave Roberts admits Brewers were better offensively than the Dodgers

None of the 4 runs the Dodgers scored in Game 2 came from a base hit. 2 of them were from throwing errors, while two came from sacrifice flies by Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman.

For the Brewers, Christian Yelich, William Contreras, Brice Turang, Cooper Bratt, and David Hamilton had multiple hits.

They saw a ton more pitches than we did. They had much better at-bats than we did across the board, top to bottom. And then they put the ball in play, created havoc, and that’s what they do. And we didn’t do that, and so that’s the difference in the game.

Dave Roberts told the reporters as per Sportsnet LA

The biggest concern for the Dodgers right now is the form of Shohei Ohtani. The 4-time MVP has struggled heavily as of late and has not been at his best. He went 0–for-4 in this game with 2 strikeouts.

Following the loss in Game 2, there have been reports that the team could consider benching him for Game 3. The attention now turns to LA, where Blake Snell will be on the mound for the Dodgers.
