“Ice. Cold. Veins.” – Malika Andrews casually handles earthquake during live TV leaving fans in awe

For anyone caught during an earthquake, no matter how mild it is, the first order of business is to get under any form of cover. As there is a likelihood of something loose or unhinged to fall from above. Especially if one is inside their house or workplace. Most avoid loose objects hanging from their ceilings. However, a TV studio cannot afford that. NBA host, Malika Andrews faced one such scenario in the ESPN studio.

The host of NBA Today was talking to WNBA legend Rebecca Lobo when the earthquake hit ESPN’s Los Angeles studio. The moment it struck she said this:

As we have a bit of an earthquake here in Los Angeles. So, we're just going to make sure that our studio lights, everything stays safe, everything shaking. Everybody good? Thank you so much for bearing with us through that. Our studio was shaking just a little bit. Tarsi if you are still good in the studio, and everyone's still good? Alright.

Malika Andrews said all this when a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Los Angeles. A quake of that magnitude has the potential to damage buildings.

In that environment to stay calm and check on everybody showed amazing composure. A studio with lots of lights hanging from the ceiling can be dangerous. Even though precautions are taken, the lights can snap from the ceiling. Often come under scrutiny for her controversial comments, she even checked on her colleagues sitting inside the production room.

Once the quake stopped and she received verbal confirmation from everyone in the Los Angeles studio, she continued speaking with Lobo. She did not take a breather or ask to go on a commercial break. Instead, continued with her job.

A magnitude of 4.4 shaking buildings for 30 seconds might not be a lot. But had it gone on for longer, it could have had some impact. This is why, fans were in awe of the way she kept everything calm and ensured her colleagues were safe while still speaking live on national television. Fans noticed how she was a consummate professional and knew she had a job to do once everything was calm.
