Manchester United reportedly looking to sack Ole Gunnar Solksjaer

Manchester United reportedly looking to sack Ole Gunnar Solksjaer
Ole clings on once more, but has Manchester United seen enough?

Despite the win against Everton, Ole Gunnar Solkjaer is in danger of losing his job. This has reportedly become the script as whenever the Norwegian is in danger of losing his job, the team wins in brilliant fashion to give him safety.
The main problem that could be attributed to Ole’s failures would be a lack of a settled team. Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have a settled 11 with either form or injuries only the reasons for change in the team. Frank Lampard and Ole have the same problem as they don’t have a settled team in mind. Frank Lampard atleast has superb players to call upon in case he makes a mistake and Ole doesn’t have that.

A lack of tactics

Donny Van De Beek has played brilliantly every time he has stepped on to the pitch but he is struggling for gametime. If that doesn’t encapsulate Manchester United’s problems, nothing else will. Case in point, consider the formation against RB Leipzig which United won 5-0. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw made the defense. Nemanja Matic, Fred, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek were the midfield diamond. Pogba played on the left while Fred played on the right. van de Beek and Matic made the top and bottom of the midfield diamond respectively. This was Manchester United’s best match this season and every player played brilliantly.

Pogba looked reinvented, Fred covered every blade of glass, van De Beek showed his class. This could be the formation that Ole could stick to, but he doesn’t. This is best formation and he could make tactical substitutions and win the match. Yet he doesn’t and that has contributed to the team’s misery.

Mauricio Pochettino looks to be the guy who’ll get into the Old Trafford dugout, provided they sack Ole

Reports have risen that Manchester United is looking to replace him with Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Naglesmann. The latter is one of the hottest prospects in European managers while the former is credited with turning around Tottenham. Both of them are certainly better than Ole and will make the team better. Pochettino worked with a team that hadn’t bought any new player for two years and yet took them to the Champions League final in 2019. Julian Naglesmann is more suited to a job at Liverpool as his tactics are pressing and fast counters, but is nevertheless a good prospect.

Massimiliano Allegri was once linked to this job and no fresh reports have come in as of yet. Whatever happens, unless Ole Gunnar Solksjaer gets his tactics correct, Manchester United will be stuck in the same cycle. As things stay, any of these three is definitely an upgrade over him.
