Premier League 2020/21: Everton v Manchester United match report

Everton hosted Manchester United at the Goodison Park, which was embroiled in another controversy as a Trump banner was flown over the stadium. Everton opened the scoring with Bernard only to see Bruno Fernandes score two goals and assist to Edinson Cavani. Manchester United won the match 3-1 and are 6 points of the top of the table with a game to spare.

Match Report

Everton started the match in good fashion and scored in the nineteenth minute of the match. Manchester United’s defense was shockingly exposed as Bernard squeezed the ball through Aaron Wan Bissaka’s legs. This only served to increase the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, who had lost two matches consecutively before this match and hadn’t shown any improvement since Jose Mourinho’s tenure.

However minutes later Bruno Fernandes equalized as Luke Shaw crossed into the box and the former headed it in. Luke Shaw has lately been on a good run of form and it may all come down to the fact that Alex Telles is waiting to make his debut. Fernandes struck yet again as he scored seven minutes later. He floated in a cross towards the Everton box and Marcus Rashford had appeared to have headed it in. However replays showed that he hadn’t touched the ball and therefore it was given to Fernandes.

Everton had more of the possession but rarely threatened David De Gea. Lucas Digne and Abdoulaye Doucoure found themselves in space to score but failed to score. These came to bite Everton in the back as in injury time Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani found themselves in a 2 on 1 position. The former unselfishly squared it to the latter as he got off the blocks for his first goal.

As always, whenever Ole Gunnar Solksjaer finds himself in danger of losing his job, Manchester United becomes all-powerful and saves him. The script continues yet again as he regains some safety and trust.
