The conversation over Austin Dillon’s controversial win at Richmond is still the major talking point in the NASCAR community. The RCR driver wrecked Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final corner of the Cook Out 400 to win the event. NASCAR wasn’t font of the move that almost everyone in the community agrees to being over the line.

Austin Dillon was allowed to keep the win, but his automatic playoff entry was stripped, making his desperate attempts worthless. The Cup driver shared their opinion about the whole ordeal ahead of this weekends’ race at Michigan. JGR veteran Martin Truex Jr. while talking about the same admitted that he is happy about the verdict.

He pointed out that he doesn’t agree with winning races in such a way. Truex Jr. also addressed the blame put on the format, as it forced such moves out of drivers, and pointed out that the racers are accountable as well. He asserted that with the penalty, driver would hesitate in the future to pull-off moves that requires no skill or talent.

Big picture I think I’m happy they did something, because I just don’t agree with that kind of racing. I understand the format and everybody just blames that. You still have to drive the car and anyone can drive through the guy in front of them. Anyone can do it. Takes no skill, not talent at all. So, I’m glad they did something so guys will be a little more hesitant to do that.

Martin Truex Jr. recalls his clash with Joey Logano at Martinsville

One of the most controversial moments of Martin Truex Jr.’s career came in 2018, where Joey Logano wrecked him in the playoff race on the final corner at Martinsville. The No:22 Ford went on to win the championship that season. Loagno while addressing claims that Dillon did the same thing, pointed out that it isn’t, but Truex Jr. doesn’t agree with him.

I mean I think maybe the outcome was a little different with that, but the intent was the same, right? It was I’m going to drive into the corner as hard as I can and hit the guy and hope I can get by him. I don’t really agree with what (Logano) said. But I don’t know.
Martin Truex Jr. said.

The points made by Martin Truex Jr. seems to make sense, as the Logano had the same intention as Dillon, but the move he made was slightly less bad. NASCAR could have made statement then by penalizing Logano, but they didn’t. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t do it now, as if the let the Dillon incident slide the future would be much worse.
