Matteo Arnaldi, the 23-year-old from Italy, moved into the second round of the Dallas Open after beating home favorite Christopher Eubanks in straight sets. While Arnaldi is searching for his first ATP title of his career, compatriot Jannik Sinner is enjoying his time in Italy after defending the Australian Open.

Before Arnaldi played his first match, he was asked about the time he was in Italy’s squad for the Davis Cup in two consecutive seasons and what he learned from Sinner who played a huge role behind the team’s succes. Arnaldi said he learned a lot from whole team while discussing Sinner’s influence on Italy’s tennis.

So you know, they gave me some advice, even on court. And again with Jannik…he’s playing unbelievble. Last year he had an amazing season, I think we can just…I don’t think he has to say anything, we just have to watch and learn from him.

Matteo Arnaldi told Tennis Channel

Last year, Italy defended their title with a 2–0 win over the Netherlands in the final. In 2023, the Italian men beat Australia 2-0 to emerge victorious for the second time.

Matt Le Tissier weighs in on Jannik Sinner’s doping scandal

Former professional football player Matt Le Tissier questioned Jannik Sinner‘s doping controversy and made a Novak Djokovic comparison. Sinner failed drug test twice in March last year and has handed just two short provisional suspensions.

He escaped a ban as banned anabolic steroid clostebol contaminated him because of his former physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi who used a spray that contained clostebol. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), however, challenged the verdict given by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

They appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and demanded a ban. Tissier, a former Southampton player, made his feelings known on the scandal.

Imagine Djokovic had failed a drugs test and then won the Australian open while the investigation is still ongoing, do you think he would have had the same fawning coverage from mainstream media? No, me either.

The WADA too agrees with the ITIA that Sinner was a victim of accidental contamination but held Sinner responsible for negligence. CAS has scheduled the hearing in April this year.

Sinner probably had played his last Grand Slam tournament of the season as the second Major event, the French Open, is in May. In the Australian Open final, Sinner beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets to lift his third Major title.
