OFFICIAL – Maurizio Sarri sacked by Juventus

Italian league champions Juventus have sacked Maurizo Sarri following their UEFA Champions league exit. The announcement was confirmed by Juventus through their social media handle. The decision came within 24 hours of Juventus Champions League exit. The Old Lady were knocked out on away goals after a 2-1 win last night. Although they did win the Serie A title, their performance was far from convincing. Inter Milan finished just 1 point off Juventus.

After the match against Lyon, Sarri said that it is disappointing to talk about his sacking.

Juventus were crowned 9th consecutive Serie A champions for 2019-2020 campaign. However, Juve experienced a serious dip in form under the Italian manger. There were criticisms on Sarri’s tactics and the way Juventus played. Previously, mant times the Juventus hierarchy had cooled down the decision of Sarri’s sacking. Although now it feels, the Champions League exit forced them to make their decision.

Juventus released a statement saying, “The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus’ history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football.”

Along with the sacking of Sarri, Juventus also sacked sporting director Fabio Paratici.

This is Sarri’s second sacking in the past two years. Sarri was previously the coach of Napoli and Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino is being touted to a move to Juventus after being sacked by Tottenham in 2019. The other potential options include Inzaghi and Allegri.
