Daniel Ricciardo helped out Max Verstappen in the penultimate lap of the Marina Bay circuit by switching to softs. RB had planned to finish in the Top 10 but it was unachievable at that point, so the team decided to go for the fastest lap. Ricciardo successfully recorded the fastest lap, helping former teammate Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship.

Daniel Ricciardo securing the faster lap prevented Lando Norris from achieving a ‘grand slam’ victory in Singapore. This prevented Norris from chipping away an extra point as he chases Max Verstappen in the championship. The Honey Badger later joked that if Verstappen wins the championship by one point, he owes him a Christmas present.

The Dutchman expressed gratitude towards the 34-year-old for his assistance. During the press conference, Verstappen was informed that Ricciardo expected a nice Christmas present for his help. With a broad smile, the 26-year-old reassured that Ricciardo had nothing to worry about, hinting the gift would definitely be delivered.

It’s been a very beautiful time with Daniel. I joined the team at a very young age, Daniel is a bit older than me. at the beginning I was able to learn a lot from him, how he operated within the team. And ultimately, I think we had quite a healthy rivalry with each other and throughout the years our friendship grew well.
