Messi looking to move to a deeper role for FC Barcelona
Lionel Messi is gradually dropping deeper and playing almost as a midfielder as he reaches the twilight of his career. This is a fascinating transformation for the player who is Barcelona’s all time top scorer at 635 goals. However, one of the most underrated facets of his game is that he provides ample number of assists as last season showed when he gave 21 assists in La Liga.
Why is Lionel Messi moving Deeper?
Messi has the ability to play any position in the field with aplomb. The ability to do this marks him apart from his contemporaries and makes him one of the greatest players.
However, Messi turned 33 this year and cannot be expected to dribble past the whole opposition team. Hence, he is looking on moving deeper and become more of a playmaker as he would get ample time on the ball to pick his team mates with delicious passes.
“Today I am less obsessed with goals, I try to contribute as much as I can to the team effort,” said Messi to magazine Garganta Poderosa. He also took time to talk about the effects of Corona in his country Argentina.
Speaking on Argentina, Messi added, “Inequality is the biggest problem of our society and we should all work together to fix this.” Moreover, Messi also added that the trophies won by Barca this season will be dedicated to Corona warriors and victims. To address the same, Messi has donated $1.2 million to the medical facilities in Argentina to battle the Coronavirus.
