Born in California on June 30, 1972, Anderson was selected in the 4th round of the 1990 draft by the then-California Angels. After spending 4 years in the minor league, Anderson made his MLB debut on July 27, 1994.

In the 1995 season, he batted with a .321 average, hit 16 home runs, and had 69 RBIs. He would go on to finish second in the American League Rookie of the Year award behind Minnesota Twins’ Marty Cordova.

Over the next few years, Anderson became a mainstay in the Angels’ lineup. He would have 5 seasons of 20 or more home runs from the 1999 to 2003 seasons.

His best performances, though, came in the 2002 season. With 29 home runs and 123 RBIs, Anderson batted with a .306 average and finished 4th in the American League MVP standings. While he missed out on that honor, he achieved massive success with his team as they won the World Series.

In Game 7 against the San Francisco Giants, the left fielder hit a bases-clearing 3-run double in the bottom of the third inning. This hit proved to be the winning runs as the Angels won the game 4-1 and claimed their maiden championship title.

Anderson went on to become a 3-time All-Star and spent 15 of his 17 seasons with the Angels. After a one-year stay with the Atlanta Braves in 2009, he would play for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010 before calling it a day on his career.

The 2-time Silver Slugger finished his career with 287 home runs and 1,365 RBIs. He batted with a career average of .293 and had 2,529 hits. He was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame in 2016.
