Minecraft has already got the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update part I and this included a ton of new mobs. One of them is the Minecraft Axolotl, and we take a look at all the details about this new mob.

Minecraft features a ton of mobs in the game. While some are friendly or neutral to the players, many are also considered as enemies and try to hurt the players. Some are to be domesticated and some are to be tamed with treats! This new mob is an addition to the water-borne mobs and is the first one that attacks enemies for the players.

The Minecraft Axolotl is a very adorable newly introduced mob in the game which can even attack your enemies.

The Axolotl is a aquatic passive mob, introduced in Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Part I update. They are passive towards players but will attack many other underwater mobs on sight.

Location and Spawn

This mob is an aquatic mob and will spawn in any water block which have a block above it. This means that it is mainly found in cave waterbodies. They can also spawn in bubble columns.

They spawn in groups of 1-4 upon world generation. After world generation they spawn individually in darkness.

  • Axolotls are passive towards the players and give Regeneration and remove Mining Fatigue when the players kill a mob it is attacking.
  • Axolotls are hostile to all underwater mobs, except turtles and Dolphins. They even attack drowned.
  • They even attack Elder Guardians in Ocean Temples.
  • When dropped to low health in water, the Axolotl feigns death and gets Regeneration I. The hostile mobs ignore a healing Axolotl. After healing back, they start attacking again.
  • When on land, Axolotls move towards the nearest water source as they die after a short while. However, they do not die when it is raining or a thunderstorm is occurring.
  • They cause Pufferfish to swell when near them.
  • Axolotls picked up in a bucket and re-spawned will not despawn.

Minecraft Axolotl can come in various colors and these are:

  • Leucistic
  • Wild
  • Gold
  • Cyan
  • There is a 1/1200 chance that the baby Axolotl spawns in a rare Blue color.
