The Crying Obsidian is a relatively new block that can be made into a new item introduced in the Nether update!

The Crying Obsidian is a variant of the obsidian block and can be used to craft a respawn anchor in the game, which is a very important item.

This is a variety of the obsidian that emits light and purple dropping particles. It is also marked by purple vine line designs on top of it.

Crafting and Generation

The Crying Obsidian is not a craftable block and can only be found naturally generated in locations. They are mainly found near Ruined Portals and players can mine them using a Diamond Pickaxe or better.

They are also found in Chests of Bastion Remnants and has a chance to spawn in every room.

Piglins also give players Crying Obsidians upon being traded a piece of Gold Ingot. However, the chance for this very rare.

Uses for Crying Obsidian

  • The Crying Obsidian is one of the hardest blocks in the game and has a high blast resistance. They are sturdy even against attacks by the Ender Dragon.
  • It is mainly used to craft a Respawn Anchor.
  • It also emits light and can therefore be used as a light source.
  • However, unlike normal Obsidian, the Minecraft Crying Obsidian cannot be used to craft Nether Portals.
