“Everything in vain”- With loss to Blue Jays, Anthony Santander now holds unique ‘unwanted’ record in MLB
Anthony Santander
The opening game of a home doubleheader between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays saw Anthony Santander of the Toronto Blue Jays hitting home runs from both sides of the plate, which is one of the coolest things a switch-hitter can do in baseball.
Anthony Santander accomplished this record by being the first Baltimore player to do so twice in a single season since Roberto Alomar did so back in 1992. Anthony Santander homered from each side of the plate for the second time this season today vs the Blue Jays.
Santander is the first Orioles player with multiple such games in a season since Roberto Alomar in 1996.” Posted ESPN Stats and Info on their Twitter page
Despite all his efforts Anthony Santander lost it against the Blue Jays
Unfortunately, Anthony Santander and the Orioles were defeated by the Blue Jays, 7-3, despite Santander’s two home runs. Santander hit just 2-for-4 in the game’s final inning, bringing himself to the plate for both of his two RBI.
Santander, though, struggled at the plate in Game 2 of the doubleheader, going 0-for-5 in Toronto’s 8-4 victory. With that defeat, the Orioles have now gone three games without a victory and are in danger of being swept by the Blue Jays at Camden Yards in this key three-game series.
The Orioles are only a few games behind the Blue Jays in the battle for the last American League wild card slot, but Baltimore will have another opportunity to overtake Toronto in the series finale on Tuesday night. Despite hitting just.257 this year, Anthony Santander leads all qualified Orioles players with an OPS of.807.
