The New York Mets have been on a spending spree this shopping season as they have reportedly inked out a $162 million deal for super-hitter Brandon Nimmo spanning eight years. The Association Press covering the story this Thursday confirmed the agreement in place, although the final completion will take place after a successful physical test.

Nimmo enjoyed a stellar last season, reaching new heights with his hitting talent. With an on-base percentage of .385, Nimmo is a first-rate hitter. Nimmo’s contract expired last month and he was made available in the free-agency market open to all the big guns out there. Nimmo’s contribution was key for the Mets as they managed to qualify for the playoffs after 6 years.

Brandon Nimmo took to Twitter after his deal was finalized, “Glad to be back! Let’s go!” said the prized asset for the Mets. Nimmo had a .274 at bat which comprised 16 home runs, a career-defining stat for him. Brandon was prone to injuries in the early part of his career but seems he has brushed that aside and turned a new page in his career.

NYM boss Buck Showalter showered praise on Nimmo, “He’s a good player. He’s established himself”. Buck couldn’t control his happiness about re-signing the superstar. Nimmo had seven triples this season, which put him in the top spot in the National League. The Mets with huge spending this season are definitely looking to go for the big prize.

Nimmos signing means that the Mets will be able to line up in a similar manner, a lineup which helped them to a tied fifth place in the majors, winning a total of 101 games. However, the Mets are still looking to strengthen their squad after Jacob deGrom’s transfer to Texas and Walker’s move to Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old made his debut back in 2016. His career stats read .269 at bat, 63 home runs, 213 RBIs along with 23 triples in a total of 608 matches. The Mets on the other hand have been loosening their purse as they also struck an $86.7 million for the Houston Ace veteran Justin Verlander.
