In a game filled with controversy, the Los Angeles Dodgers got the better of the Houston Astros by a score of 8-7. The talking point of the game came in the eighth inning as relief pitcher Ryne Stanek verbally attacked the umpires. The southpaw was left stunned after the second base umpire called his actions a balk after he had struck out the batter.

Facing a 3-2 situation against David Peralta, the umpire called for a balk as he assumed the pitcher was trying to pitch. This led to the runner from the third base to score as the Dodgers went into the lead. Stanek walked up straight to the umpire to have some words. This conversation did not go down well and Stanek was ejected from the game.

This turned out to be the first career balk given away by Stanek. His manager Dusty Baker tried to get some explanation from the umpire. He was also given his marching orders. Meanwhile, Baker’s counterpart Dave Roberts claimed it was the right call by the letter of the law. This call has now sparked debate among baseball fans on social media.

There are times in sports when simple things become strange and extraordinary. In baseball, there have been various such incidents in the past, which have left the fans stunned. Something like that occurred on Saturday as the Dodgers faced off against the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium. A ball hit off the bat of outfielder James Outman got stuck on the fence.

The situation of the fence at the Dodger Stadium has been subject to several debates. Three weeks ago, NY Yankees captain Aaron Judge got caught in it and was left injured. He has since then not played a single game. The fence paid dividends once again after the ball strangely got stuck there. It could have proved to be a big decision in the game.

With the Dodgers trailing 7-6 in the eighth inning, up stepped Outman. He had runners on first and third with one out. The outfielder proceeded to connect the ball well and it traveled to the right side of the field. At first, the ball seemed to have crossed the wall. However, it stuck the fence and the decision was overturned as a ground-rule double instead of a three-run home run.

In what could have been a 9-7 lead, the Dodgers were forced to settle with a 7-7 score level. The match-up between the Dodgers and Astros has been one which provides drama and controversy. In the same inning later on, Astros pitcher Ryan Stanek was dismissed from the game following his robust outburst against the umpires over a balk decision, which turned pivotal.
