“It was meant to f**king happen”- J.D. Martinez 18th player in MLB history to smash 4 homers in a single game
J.D. Martinez
J.D. Martinez joined MLB history to become the 18th player to smash four home runs in a single game as the Arizona Diamondbacks came up with their 11th straight win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017, defeating them 13-0. The last time on the 21st of June 2015, J.D. Martinez came really close to accomplishing the task but fell short.
“This at-bat, I came up and I was like, just go up here and try to have a good at-bat,” Martinez said. “Just keep doing what you’ve been doing all day. You know what, if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. It’s going to happen. There’s no point in trying to force it. Just go up there and have a good at-bat.”

A.J. Pollock on J.D. Martinez’s accomplishment
With 34 home runs of the season and a good at-bat A.J. Pollock was quite sure that J.D. Martinez was going to make it count, and sure enough it did happen. “I’m watching his swing and I’m thinking if this is a strike I think this is a homer,” Pollock said. “It’s obviously the most impressive thing I’ve ever been a part of. It was awesome.”
There was amusement and exciting in the bullpen as Martinez became the 16th player in the modern era of MLB to hit 4 home runs in a single game. Fellow players rushed to congratulate Martinez for his victory. “I think they were more excited than I was,” Martinez said.
“As it was going on they were so pumped up. If you guys would have been in here before, you would have been dying laughing. They were just going nuts. I’ve been saying since I got here, these guys are great. They make me feel at home here.”
