What a day it has been for the San Diego Padres and Joe Musgrove. The San Diego Padres defeated the New York Mets 6-0 to find their way into the National League Division Title. Joe Musgrove had won the battle before it could even start, he told fellow teammate Austin Nola, he going to have the best start, and proved himself right.
Not only did Joe Musgrove have the best start of his career till date, but he also created history by becoming the first pitcher in major league baseball history to throw seven shutout innings and allow one hit in a winner-takes-all postseason game. Musgrove pitched incredibly well retiring the first twelve batters of the game.
“You could see the resolve in [Musgrove’s] face and the demeanor he had,” Padres’ manager Bob Melvin said. “He was on a mission today.”
Buck Showalter requests for a substance check against Joe Musgrove
The New York Mets were struggling against Joe Musgrove, and in the bottom of the sixth inning Mets’ manager Buck Showalter wanted an inspection against Musgrove for substance check, stating that pictures went viral of his ear shining. The request was taken into consideration and umpires checked Musgrove’s era thoroughly but to Showalter’s bad luck found nothing.
According to Buck Showalter, he had taken this decision because he had prior information for illegal means in the game. An increased rotation Musgrove’s spin was the main reason Buck had to call in for an inspection. And he didn’t care how this decision would make him look in the public eye, because all he wanted was the best for the Mets.
But according to Joe Musgrove, Buck just did him dirty. “The foreign substance check by the Mets was ‘desperate’ and the team’s ‘last attempt to get me out of the game.'” Musgrove said. “It almost just lit a fire under me,” he added.
