Justin Verlander declines Astros $25 million deal keeping Yankees, Dodgers, Mets in loop
Justin Verlander
American baseball pitcher Justin Verlander has chosen the road of free agency after boldly declining Houston Astros’ $25 million deal. He along with four other players is now standing in the free zone. Just recently the team won their 2nd World Series Championship title, but bitter changes within the team are following up.
The Major League Baseball Association announced Justin Verlander’s verdict last week Thursday whereas it has been only a few days since the celebratory parade. Free agent and likely Cy Young Award winner tasted his first World Series win in 9 starts in Game 5 against the Philadelphia Phillies. During the game, he allowed 4 hits and 1 run over 5 innings.
All his recent accomplishments will likely earn him his 3rd Cy Young Award. Though the 39-year-old pitcher may be headed somewhere else at this point. Even if things change in the future, right now, Verlander has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to sign up for any extensions with the Astros and look up for another team probably.
Justin Verlander in search of a new MLB path
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the player may be searching for a big contender and looking for teams like the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, or New York Mets. The recent free agency may hit hard for the Mets, which explains their interest in acquiring the star pitcher.
While the Dodgers are focusing on adding superstar depth, the Yankees could use some frontline starter who established himself in the game. Even though the star pitcher is reaching 40 soon, Verlander’s play style would say a different story.
He is still very much active considering his age for that matter. A team with the aim of winning titles like the World Series would be a perfect fit for him now.
