After a disappointing start to the season, the New York Yankees are getting better. The most successful team in baseball history at one point seemed like a team of kids and not men. The team has however turned around their fortunes looking like a cutting edge in recent weeks. The joy of Yankees fans was doubled as starting pitcher Luis Severino made his return from an injury.
The right-handed southpaw suffered a strain in spring training and has since then working on making a return. The two-time All-star has suffered several setbacks due to injuries. He however looked impressive in his side’s 4-1 over the Cincinnati Reds as they completed the sweep. In a game where their main man, Aaron Judge was sitting in the dugout due to manager Aaron Boone’s decision, the team made sure they did not rely too much on him.
Severino pitched 4.2 innings on his return. He gave up one run through four hits but was able to pick up five strikeouts as well. There was a huge outrage on social media on the run he allowed though. It was not because of the pitching. It was the circumstances the run was allowed by the umpires and officials of the game.
Right fielder Jake Bauers was unable to make a play while sliding down the right-field line. The umpires at first signaled it was a foul ball. However, the umpires overturned their decision after a video review and deemed it fair. This led Yankees manager Aaron Boone out of his seat to have a word with them. Perhaps he spoke too much, as the umpires ejected him from the game.

New York Yankees finally getting together as a proper team

At one point of the season, the NY Yankees were dead last in the American East standings. Things were going horribly wrong for them. Battling line-up was unable to gather any hits, injuries to star players, and pitching catastrophe all led to this poor form. It seems like the team has finally clicked into gears.
Their 4-1 win over the Reds saw them sweep their opponents. In their last 14 games, the Yankees boast an impressive record of 11 wins and three losses. Important wins against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays have improved their season record. They are now 29-20 in the season. Hitter Harrison Bader believes the return of Luis Severino makes them much better.
If the return of Severino can make the Yankees so much better, then imagine what will happen when Giancarlo Stanton and Carlos Rodon make their way back. These are the encourgaring signs the team needed when they were going through hard times. Waiting for the next is the Baltimore Orioles, who have so far surpassed everyone’s expectations. It will be interesting to see how that series folds out.
