“It all seems like yesterday”- Matt Carpenter back to St. Louis Cardinals but as a Yankee

“It all seems like yesterday”- Matt Carpenter back to St. Louis Cardinals but as a Yankee

The St. Louis Cardinals, who took Matt Carpenter in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB Draft, were where he spent the majority of his career. He joined the team for the first time in 2011 and stayed till 2021. Now that he is a New York Yankee, his career has recovered. The Yankees and Cardinals will play a three-game series this weekend in St. Louis. Carpenter met with the media before the game on Friday, Aug. 5, and was filled with emotion while talking about telling his family he was going back to St. Louis for the series.

Carpenter enjoyed a lot of memorable moments with the Cardinals. From winning the World Series in his debut season in the majors to receiving the Silver Slugger Award in 2013 and three appearances in the All-Star Game (2013-14, 2016). Carpenter, though, saw a decline in his output with time. He had batting averages far below .200 in each of the seasons of 2020 and 2021. The Cardinals rejected his option at the end of the 2021 season, resulting in his becoming a free agent.

The Texas Rangers and Carpenter agreed to split ways between May after Carpenter signed a minor league contract with them earlier in the year. He was replaced by the Yankees, who decided to sign him to a major league contract for the duration of this season. Carpenter’s success started as soon as he put on the stripes.

Carpenter is slashing in 43 games as of Friday night. 312/.435/.791 with 37 hits, 36 RBI, and 15 home runs. On Friday night, Carpenter will enter Busch Stadium as a member of the Yankees, batting third in the lineup. We’ll watch his response as he enters the batter’s box and is greeted by Cardinals supporters.
